Outdoor Portraits with Diffusers & Reflectors
1) What is the difference between a photographic diffuser and a reflector?
Diffuser absorbs all light and casts shade a little more perfectly whereas the reflector capture the light and then bounce it back onto the subject that being photographed
2) When would you use a diffuser compared to when you would use a reflector?
3) When would you use the black side of a diffuser, sometimes called a gobo or a scrim
4) How will your subject know if you are using the reflector properly?
5) Describe the differences between the silver, white and gold sides of the reflector?
Diffuser absorbs all light and casts shade a little more perfectly whereas the reflector capture the light and then bounce it back onto the subject that being photographed
2) When would you use a diffuser compared to when you would use a reflector?
The diffuser should be used when the light is too hard, the reflector should use when the light is not enough to reflect light on the object.
3) When would you use the black side of a diffuser, sometimes called a gobo or a scrim
When I want to create a deeper shade and make the background to be relatively brighter.
It can also be used when I want to block reflections from the surrounding objects.
4) How will your subject know if you are using the reflector properly?
Whoever being photographed should get a little bit blinding. The object should see the light.
5) Describe the differences between the silver, white and gold sides of the reflector?
The white side will cast a softer light and not bounce back as much light, but it shows fewer imperfections and is a bit more flattering. Compared to the white one, the silver side gives more light, but less flattering. The gold side adds some warmth to the photo.
